A Freebie
Who can resist a freebie? For years and years, I peeked through the window of the fitness center and saw people frozen in a pose for a long time. Yoga? Not for me. But a freebie? Let’s try.
Gallaudet University
In 2008, my yoga journey began unexpectedly when I saw a flyer offering a free yoga week at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. I fell in love with the whole concept of yoga. I then visited the Sivananda Yoga Ranch in Woodbourne, NY, for a Deaf Yoga Retreat Weekend. I AM HOME!
Sivananda Yoga Ranch
I knew I had found a second home, so I signed up for the Teachers Training Course the following summer, in 2009. When I completed the 200 hours of training, I received the Yoga Siromani certification.
Yoga Instructor
I have been teaching yoga since 2009. In 2014, I received my certification to teach children’s yoga. I have also studied Chair Yoga, Senior Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga, Parent and Child Yoga, and Positive Thinking Yoga.
Yoga Therapy and Philosophy
In 2017, I studied yoga philosophy, yoga therapy, and yogic breathing. I enjoy teaching breathing to Deaf people because it is something really needed nationwide. I teach yogic breathing and practice trauma-related yoga therapy using a CBT-informed method. Yoga therapy combines movement, breathwork, and mindfulness with psychological principles to help children and adults regulate their emotions, build resilience, and cope with stress.

Visual description
A woman in a black tank top and pants performs a standing yoga pose, one leg extended straight up overhead while the other stands on a purple yoga mat, smiling at the camera with long braided hair. Behind her hangs an abstract painting of overlapping circular shapes in gold and gray. Stuffed animals sit in a basket nearby, and the room has beige carpet and walls.
