A person loaned me the book while I was doing ongoing work on my website, which is my personal memoir. She felt Brenda was wrong to publish it. Naturally, that piqued my curiosity, since I was planning to write about some of my feelings related to my biological mother.
I read the book with an open mind. I knew the children and in-laws she mentioned in it, and reading her account did not change how I viewed them. I focused instead on how she felt and what her opinion was. The book also included information about Deaf culture, Gallaudet College culture, and various types of abuse, especially narcissistic and alienating grandparents, which I experienced with my biological mom. I look at the book as an idea of what my mom might have thought.
It is sorta nice to read a book written by a Deaf author. I have read so many books written by hearing authors, but not with the wording where I felt related to and understood.
